Area Roundup - Turnovers ruin Panthers' chances

CONFLUENCE, Pa. - Hancock squandered two scoring opportunities with turnovers deep in Turkeyfoot territory, which proved costly as the Panthers lost 20-8 on Saturday afternoon.

Hancock (3-3) got on the board first on a Ricky Snow 11-yard run, but couldn't get into the end zone after that. Snow finished the game with a team-high 61 rushing yards on three carries.

Jordan Sterner had two sacks to lead a Hancock defense that held Turkeyfoot to 97 yards of total offense and just two yards in the second half.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Mercersburg Academy remained winless for the season as they lost to Bullis, No. 23 in the Md. Associated Press poll.

The Blue Storm (0-7), who have lost 13 in a row, fell behind 28-0 at halftime and could not overcome the deficit. Mercersburg did manage to get on the board in the second half, first on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Joey Yurish to Kenan Wright, then on a 5-yard touchdown run by Kenan Senguen.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Jammie Moore scored on a 7-yard run late in the first quarter, but Berkeley Springs' offense was shut down by Frankfort - the No. 2 team in W.Va. Class AA - after that point Friday.

Matt Mason had 15 carries for 84 yards, while Matt Rockwell caught six passes for 68 yards for the Indians.

WILLIAMSPORT - James Barnes led Boonsboro with 139 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Blace Ramos ran for 60 yards and one touchdown and Josh Lewis had a receiving touchdown for the Warriors (4-2). Barnes also led the defense with 11 tackles.

HARRISBURG, Pa. - James Derreck scored on an assist from Alex Strait with 1:11 left in the first overtime and James Woodring made five saves for his fifth shutout of the season as Waynesboro (9-7) clinched the fifth seed in the District 3-AAA playoffs. Waynesboro will play West York in the first round of the District 3 tournament Thursday.

CLEAR SPRING - Drew Holler scored off an indirect kick for the only score of the game for Clear Spring (5-6-1). Josh Barnhart had 13 saves and the shutout for the Blazers.

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Andrew Mack had two assists as Steve Costello and David Savino scored goals while Pat McCullough had six saves for St. Maria Goretti (7-10-1).

Mercersburg 2, Bullis 1


MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Ben Lampert had a goal and an assist as Mercersburg knocked off Bullis.

Austin Mort had a goal and Graham Zifferer had an assist for the Blue Storm (4-5-4). Andrew Rohman had eight saves.

Palmyra 3, Greencastle 0


PALMYRA, Pa. - Greencastle's season came to a close with the Mid-Penn Class AA playoff loss.

Mike Helsel, Austin Kipe and Jason Keil each had a goal for Palmyra, while Marc Martin made two saves for the shutout. Stephen Sprague made six saves for Greencastle (10-9).

No. 6 North 4, Goretti 2


Michelle Fickes had three goals and one assist and Brenna Bacon also scored to lead North Hagerstown (10-3, 4-3). Marett Diamond scored on an assist from Valerie Cushwa and Emily Favret scored unassisted for Goretti.
