Suns release 2003 schedule

October 17, 2002

Six homestands of eight games or more highlight the Hagerstown Suns' 2003 schedule, which was released by the team on Wednesday.

The Suns, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, begin the South Atlantic League season on the road once again, traveling to Greensboro for a four-game set beginning April 3. The Bats, a longtime affiliate of the New York Yankees, are now a part of the Florida Marlins system.

The Suns play their home opener April 10 as the first in a four-game series with the Lexington Legends.

The first of two 10-game homestands begins May 28 against Lakewood and ends June 6 against the Lake County Captains - formerly the Columbus RedStixx.

Hagerstown ends its home season with a 10-game homestand Aug. 15-24, featuring four games each against Greensboro and Kannapolis and two against Lakewood.

The Suns play 14 games against the Baltimore Orioles-affiliated Delmarva Shorebirds and the games are scheduled close together.

Hagerstown travels to Delmarva May 24-27 and July 9-11, while the Shorebirds come to Hagerstown May 30-June 2 and July 16-18.

The Suns play their only four games against the 2002 SAL champion Hickory Crawdads in Hickory May 12-15.

The Suns will move game times in April and May ahead 30 minutes to 6:35 p.m. to accomodate fans who found the 7:05 starts to be too late during the school year.

Game time will return to 7:05 in June and continue the remainder of the season. Sunday games begin at 1:35.
