Today



1 and 2 p.m. - Public tours of the West Virginia University Tree Fruit Research and Education Center in Kearneysville, W.Va. From I-81, take exit 12 and follow W.Va. 9 east six or seven miles to the center.

2 p.m. - Public tours of the USDA/ARS Appalachian Fruit Research Station in Kearneysville. From I-81, take exit 12 and follow W.Va. 9 east about 10 miles, turn right onto Wiltshire Road and follow tour signs.




Friday, Oct. 18



11 a.m. - Apple pie baking contest at James Rumsey Technical Institute, Martinsburg, W.Va. Call 1-304-262-3064 to enter contest.

6 p.m. - Coronation of Queen Pomona XXIII at the Apollo Civic Theatre, 128 E. Martin St., Martinsburg. Admission is free.

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. - Friday Night in the Park, featuring Souled Out at War Memorial Park in Martinsburg. Admission is free.

7 to 9 p.m. - Queen's reception at Holiday Inn on Viking Way in Martinsburg. Tickets are $12; free for ages 10 and younger.

9 p.m. - Fireworks at War Memorial Park. Free admission.




Saturday, Oct. 19



Unless noted, all events take place at the Berkeley County Youth Fairgrounds on Golf Course Road in Martinsburg.

7 a.m. to noon - Pancake breakfast. $4.50 in advance, $5 at the door; free for ages 7 and younger. Also 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

8 to 9 a.m. - Make apple arrangements; apple growers' contests for Best Plate of 5 Apples and Apple Commercial Pack.

8:30 a.m. - Celebrity sports breakfast at Holiday Inn, Viking Way, Martinsburg, featuring Mark Moseley, former Washington Redskins kicker.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Arts and crafts show, $2 admission. Also 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

10 a.m. - Apple variety identification contest.

11 a.m. - Apple pie auction.

Noon - 5K Apple Trample. Race begins at War Memorial Park. Entry fee is $10, late fee is $15. For information, call 1-304-264-1232, ext. 1694.

1 p.m. - Grand Feature Parade, with Celebrity Grand Marshal J. Eddie Peck from "All My Children." Downtown Martinsburg.

3 to 7 p.m. - Fall Finale Cruise'n Car Show at Rock Cliff Subs and Pizza, Rock Cliff Drive, Martinsburg.

7 to 11 p.m. - Panhandlers Square Dance, North Middle School gym, East Road, Martinsburg. Tickets are $6 in advance, $7 at the door. For information, call 1-304-274-0419.
