Area roundup - TJ girls win FCT on PKs

October 16, 2002

No. 4 TJ splits

URBANA, Md. - Thomas Johnson and Urbana agreed to play the Frederick County Tournament championship game and their Central Maryland Conference match in one. The teams tied at 2-2 after regulation and overtimes, so as far as the CMC is concerned, the game ended in a tie. But, to settle the FCT, the teams went into penalty kicks. After both teams missed in the first five, TJ coach Chuck Nichols decided to ask which of his underclassmen would like to take the shot. Stefanie Cohen volunteered. Urbana, in the first round of 1-for-1s, missed. Up stepped Cohen who drilled a shot past the Urbana keeper's lower left for the game-winner. It is Thomas Johnson's sixth straight FCT title.
