Local EDC restructures staff, duties

October 14, 2002

The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission has announced a reorganization of its staff's duties and responsibilities.

"This new structure will better focus the EDC's resources and talents toward the primary mission of the organization - to be a strategic partner for the existing business community as well as recruit quality companies to Washington County," said Douglas S. Wright Jr., EDC chairman.

The reorganization includes the creation of two new staff positions - a business development specialist and a fiscal/research specialist. The executive director, marketing specialist and the administrative specialist roles remain relatively the same.

The assistant director and the EDC administrator positions have been eliminated to make way for the new positions. The business development specialist will be a professional sales position responsible for implementing EDC marketing initiatives to more aggressively attract new business and industry to the county.

The fiscal/research specialist will develop and compile detailed demographic and other data important to a company's decision to locate in Washington County, and will update data published on the EDC's Web site and in other key marketing publications. That person will also be responsible for tracking the EDC's operational budget as well as having thorough knowledge of loans and grants available for start-up and existing businesses.

The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission is a county agency that provides assistance to new and expanding businesses in Washington County and works to attract new companies to the area.
