Paul E. Keefer

BEDFORD, Texas - Paul Edwin Keefer, 89, of Bedford, and formerly of Hagerstown, died July 13, 2002, at his home.

Born Feb. 8, 1913, in Fitchburg, Mass., he was the son of the late Walter L. and Marie A. Spahr Keefer.

Graveside services will be Saturday at noon at Rest Haven Cemetery. Pastor Edward Heim will officiate.




Carolyn J. Rowe

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Carolyn J. "Tootie" Cutchall Rowe, 71, of 78 Orchard Circle, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at her home.

Born July 4, 1931, in McConnellsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank M. and Pauline Eader Cutchall.

She was a 1949 graduate of Mercersburg (Pa.) High School; and a 1951 graduate of Chambersburg Business School.

She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown for 14 years in production planning. She worked for First National Bank of Greencastle.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greencastle.

She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd M. "Sonny" Rowe Jr., whom she married Oct. 1, 1953; two sons, Kirk D. Rowe and Keith D. Rowe, both of Greencastle; two grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Wava L. Guthrie; and two brothers, Melvin R. Cutchall and Gerald L. Cutchall.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Revs. Martin H. Horn and Donald M. Bohn will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wesley A. Ruth

Wesley Albert Ruth, 84, of 19114 Beacon Lane, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Beverly Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 9, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Lillian Jackson Rush.

He was employed by M.P. Moller, retiring in 1982 after 36 years.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church.

He was a volunteer with Pony League Baseball and the Boy Scouts.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn E. Ruth; one son, Terrence A. Ruth of Severna, Md.; four sisters, Ethel Carbaugh of Maugansville, Mary Rudisill of Clarksburg, W.Va. and Peggy Swope and Lillian Pickens, both of Hagerstown; and one brother, Lewis Ruth of Clear Spring.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dolores McKenzie.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Paramount Baptist Church, Hagerstown. Pastor Lawrence Rickard will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

Iona A. Swartz

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Iona Alverta Bartholomew Swartz, 83, of Beverly Healthcare, 3301 Lincoln Way East, and formerly of 6515 Mountain Drive, Chambersburg, Pa., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the nursing home.

Born Sept. 26, 1919, in Jim Thorpe, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Matilda Edwards Bartholomew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Swartz, in 1987. They were married Sept. 1, 1948.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Catherine J. Dean and Darlene Scheib, both of Chambersburg, and Mary J. Osborne of Cresco, Pa.; one son, Edward C. Swartz of Fayetteville; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.

Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Harold E. Blattenberger

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Harold E. Blattenberger, 87, of 5232 Fort Loudon Road, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at his home.

Born Dec. 23, 1914, in Marks, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth Mae Miller Blattenberger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Steiger Brill Blattenberger.

He worked for Letterkenny Army Depot as a transportation supervisor 10 years. He worked for Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance in Mercersburg, as an agent.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Mercersburg, Pa., the church council, sang in the choir, and was Sunday school superintendent.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge of Greencastle, Pa.

He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Bender of Mercersburg; one sister, Betty Gayman of Shippensburg, Pa.; three brothers, Donald Blattenberger and James Blattenberger, both of Mercersburg, and Robert Blattenberger of Shippensburg; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
