Shootings cancel St. John's-PH's football game

October 11, 2002|by MARK KELLER

St. John's at Prospect Hall's football game against Heritage (Va.) scheduled for tonight at McCurdy Field has been postponed indefinitely, SJPH coach John Ricca said on Thursday.

Ricca said that the Loudoun County, Va., school district has halted all outdoor activities until next Tuesday in the wake of the sniper shootings in the Washington metropolitan area.

A shooting Wednesday night in Manassas has linked to similar shootings in Montgomery and Prince George's counties in Maryland, prompted the Loudoun County board to postpone the games.

A posting on the Loudoun County Public Schools Web site said the cancellation applies to all school levels, all practices and all games involving that county's students.

Loudoun County teams may hold practices if they are conducted inside their school.

Ricca said there is a good possiblity that the game will not be played this season.
