Meadowlark Lemon, a former star with the Harlem Globetrotters, will be the grand marshal of the Alsatia Mummers' Parade next month.

Parade Chairman William McCleaf said Lemon agreed this week to be in the parade, which will be held in downtown Hagerstown Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.

Lemon already planned to be in Washington County that weekend to give a motivational speech to the Hagerstown Junior Basketball League, McCleaf said.

Lemon was with the Globetrotters for 22 years, retiring in 1979.

In 1986, he became a minister and was ordained five years later, according to a Web site about his ministry. He preaches and lives in Scottsdale, Ariz., and also tours the country.
