New zoning designation recommended for site

The Washington County Planning Commission voted Monday night to recommend that the County Commissioners create a new zoning designation and rezone the 452-acre Friendship Technology Park property south of Interstate 70 along Downsville Pike to the new classification.

Allegheny Energy, which owns the property, is calling for the creation of an Office, Research and Technology District.

Currently, 244 of the acres at the site are zoned planned industrial and 208 acres are zoned agricultural, county documents said.

Member Henry resigns

Washington County Planning Commission member Timothy Henry has resigned, Chairwoman Paula Lampton said at Monday night's meeting.

Lampton said Henry resigned because of family obligations and time constraints.

She said the Washington County Commissioners will appoint someone to fill the vacant position.
