Area Roundup - Lions roar in upset of Hubs

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Sarah Huber scored on an assist from Sara Rittelmeyer in the second half, and Anna Lebo recorded nine saves for her fourth shutout of the season as Walkersville (5-4) upset No. 2 North Hagerstown 1-0 Thursday in the MVAL.

Kerri Snyder had three saves for North (7-2).

No. 4 Jefferson 5, No. 8 Hedgesville 2

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Courtney McCauley netted a hat trick, while Gabby Carstens scored twice and had an assist as Jefferson defeated Hedgesville in a matchup of two top-10 teams.

Jill Bradley, Kara Vogler and Laura McIlroy all had assists for the Cougars (11-2-1, 5-0-1 Apple Valley League). McIlroy also had six saves.

Samantha Baker and Leslie Kirk both scored goals for the Eagles, while Jacquie Fisher had an assist.

St. James 2, Musselman 0

INWOOD, W.Va. - Sarah Kornides and Kimberly Hall both scored for St. James (5-5-2). Lauren Blount and Katie Graham had assists for the Saints.

ST. JAMES - Emily McCormack, Sarah Morgan, Kim Hall and Katie Graham each scored a goal Wednesday for St. James. Jessica Greenberg and Sarah Kornides had assists.


Mechanicsburg 2, No. 8 Waynesboro 1

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Andrew Eshleman scored on an assist from James Derrick, while James Woodring had six saves for Waynesboro (5-6, 3-4 Mid-Penn Keystone) in a loss.

Bucky Koysk had 15 saves for Mechanicsburg, who scored the game-winning goal on a penalty shot with eight minutes left in the game.

Middletown 6, South 1

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Mark Buckheimer scored two goals, while Bobby Buckheit, Patrick Sherman, Greg Miller and Chad Crane each had a goal for Middletown in a win in the MVAL.

Jonathan Kisas had two assists and Michael Schlepp had one assist for the Knights (5-3-1, 3-1-1).

Andrew Shadrach scored on an assist from Emens Rho for the Rebels.

Grace 9, Faith Christian 0

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joey Reed and Danny Carver both scored twice, while Jerry Branhard, Darren Sweeney and Andy Uiler each had a goal and an assist as Grace Academy defeated Faith.

Ryan Myers and Jordan Hanft also scored, while Mark Derby had an assist for Grace (10-1-1, 9-0-1 Mason-Dixon Christian Conference).

BOONSBORO - Meggie Miller had 10 kills and 18 digs, Denise Sullivan had 15 assists and 14 service points and Lindsey Plotner added seven kills and five blocks for Williamsport (6-1) in a 15-4, 15-10, 15-2 win in the MVAL.

Sarah Harris had four kills and seven blocks, while Meg Burtner recorded ten digs for the Warriors (5-3). JV: Williamsport, 2-1.

SMITHSBURG -Smithsburg (13-0, 8-0) beat South (3-7, 2-4) in three games, 15-11, 15-5, 15-8.

Smithburg's Katie Franklin had 15 service points, including seven aces, and 20 assists, while Katy Powell had 16 kills and Jenna Warrenfeltz had seven service points and six digs.

Brittany Beard had seven service points and Angie Dieterich had eight service points for South. JV: South, 2-1.

IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Erin Maldo had 13 kills, 11 service points, three aces and five digs, Jessica Goode had six kills, six service points and four digs, Lindsey Merchant had nine blocks and four kills and Kate Martin had 12 service points, 17 assists and two blocks for Thomas Johnson (6-1) as the Patriots swept Urbana, 15-8, 15-9, 15-3. THURMONT, Md. - Kelly Stiles had 11 kills, Shawna Wilkes had three aces and Jessica Weddle had six assists for Catoctin (2-6) as the Cougars fell to Walkersville, 15-12, 15-10, 15-10 in the MVAL. JV: Catoctin, 2-0.

SCOTLAND, Pa. - Greencastle (8-4, 8-3 Mid-Penn Capital) won, 14-16, 15-2, 15-1.

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Kaylie Mellott had nine service points, five kills and five blocks to lead Southern Fulton (9-3, 6-2 Sideling Hill League) over Everett, 15-8, 15-8.

Loni Layton had five kills and three blocks, while Cajan Woodal had five kills for Southern Fulton. JV: Everett, 2-1.

Broadfording 3, Shalom 1

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dee Brown had six kills, Leslie Brown had 16 service points and five kills, while Becca Conner had 16 service points, including six aces, and 20 assists for Broadfording in a 15-3, 13-15, 15-8, 15-11 victory over Shalom Christian.

Cindel Young had 13 service points, four aces and five kills for Broadfording (5-5).
