Police looking for driver in Pa. accident

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that hit another vehicle in the Mont Alto square Monday evening and drove off.

William Bowders, 56, of Waynesboro, Pa., was pulling his 1997 Ford Explorer out from Mont Alto Road to cross Pa. 997 and travel east on Park Street at 7:30 p.m., police said.

At the same time, a Chevrolet S-10 pulled out from Park Street and struck the Explorer in the front left corner and fled, police said.

Bowders was not injured, but his vehicle sustained moderate damage, police said.

Two flown to hospital following crash

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Two people were flown to a regional hospital Monday afternoon following a three-vehicle accident outside Gate 6 at Letterkenny Army Depot, Pennsylvania State Police said.


The 4:30 p.m. accident happened as a vehicle driver by Susan Baker, 46, of Spring Run, Pa., drifted into oncoming traffic on Pa. 997, striking a northbound vehicle driven by Susanne Wenger, 53, of Pleasant Hall, Pa., police said. Baker's vehicle continued and hit a third car driven by Berk Meredith, 46, of Orrstown, Pa.

Meredith and his passenger, Kim Williams, 47, of Orrstown, were flown to York (Pa.) Hospital. Both were treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Pa. 997 was closed for 90 minutes while police cleared the accident scene.

City woman injured in fall from roof

A Hagerstown woman was critically injured early Tuesday after falling about 40 feet from a roof, police said.

Hagerstown Police said Lori Ann Villa was walking on the roof of 306 N. Potomac St. looking for a cat when she lost her balance and fell at about 12:45 a.m.

Villa, 39, was listed in critical condition Tuesday night at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Community Rescue Service took Villa, of the 400 block of Mitchell Avenue, to the grounds of Western Heights Middle School following her fall.

A Maryland State Police helicopter picked her up there and flew her to the Shock Trauma Center.

Frederick women face prostitution charges

FREDERICK, Md. - Two Frederick County women were charged with prostitution Tuesday following a police undercover operation in the 400 block of North Market Street in Frederick, according to the Frederick Police Department.

Sheena Lea Compher, 37, of the 4800 block of Pioneer Circle in Jefferson, Md., was charged with engaging in prostitution and fourth-degree sex offense, police said.

Amy Jean Uff, 22, of the 1700 block of West 7th Street in Frederick, was charged with engaging in prostitution, police said.
