Man pleads guilty to assaulting wife

A Maugansville man last week pleaded guilty in Washington County District Court to assaulting his wife, who is a District Court commissioner, according to court records.

John Nelson Titus, 43, of the 13800 block of Village Mill Drive, pleaded guilty on Sept. 26 to one count of second-degree assault, court records state.

As part of the plea agreement, a second count of second-degree assault and charges of disturbing the peace and being intoxicated and causing a public disturbance were dismissed, court records state.

Titus was sentenced by Judge Daniel Moylan to two years of probation with the first year supervised for the Aug. 6 incident, court records state.

Moylan, an out-of-district judge, handled the case because Titus' wife is Washington County District Court Commissioner Cheryl Titus, court officials said.
