Accident claims life of W.Va. woman

September 30, 2002

GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. - A single vehicle accident claimed the life of a 44-year-old Gerrardstown woman Friday night when her SUV ran off a curve on a wet stretch of road, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department said Saturday.

The woman was identified as Patricia A. Chandler. No address was available.

Chandler was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, police said.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m., police said.

Deputy Brad Dusek said Chandler was westbound on W.Va. 51 west of Gerrardstown in her 1993 Isuzu Trooper when she passed another vehicle and headed into a curve. When the other vehicle rounded the curve the driver saw Chandler's Trooper in a ditch on its roof, police said.

She was thrown from the vehicle, police said.

Dusek said speed and the wet condition of the road may have been factors in the crash.
