Traditional musicians perform at festival

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Seventh Annual Appalachian Heritage Festival offers a weekend of interactive events, workshops and performances from the region's best artists.

Featured artists include John Lilly, Kate Long and Robin Kessinger, Ralph Blizard, Melvin Wine, Critton Hollow String Band and Bob Perilla's Big Hillbilly Bluegrass Band.

Festival passes (admission to both concerts) are $20, adults; $15, seniors; and $5 for ages younger than 18. Single concert tickets are $15, general admission; $5 for ages younger than 18; and $10, senior citizens, Shepherd faculty and staff. Tickets are free to Shepherd students with valid Rambler identification while they last. Call 1-304-876-5497.

Friday, Oct. 4


8 p.m. - Frank Center Theater: Showcase concert featuring John Lilly and Ralph Blizard, Denise Giardina and Critton Hollow String Band.

10 p.m. to midnight - Community jam with festival artists at Mecklenburg Inn.

Saturday, Oct. 5


11 a.m. - McMurran Hall: Community Sing led by Kate Long.

1 p.m. - McMurran Hall: "Peanut Butter and Jam" children's workshop; introduction to the instruments and music of Appalachia.

1 p.m. - The Great Hall, O'Hurley's General Store: Fiddlers' workshop with Ralph Blizard and Melvin Wine.

2 p.m. - McMurran Hall: Songwriting workshop with Kate Long and John Lilly

3 p.m. - The Great Hall, O'Hurley's General Store: Introduction to Flatpicking Guitar with Robin Kessinger.

8 p.m. - Frank Center Theater: Showcase concert featuring John Lilly, Melvin Wine, Kate Long and Robin Kessinger, and Bob Perilla's Big Hillbilly Bluegrass Band.
