City approves contract for demolition of Double T Building

September 25, 2002

The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday approved a $69,600 contract for the demolition of the Double T Building at 46-48 S. Potomac St. and related work.

The council agreed to have Milton Stamper Builders do the work.

The council was scheduled to vote on June 18 on whether to award the contract but at the July 11 meeting, council members said they wanted additional information on the two development proposals involving the Double T and the neighboring Tri-State Electric building.

At the Sept. 24 meeting, the council gave general support for a proposal by Bowman Development Corp. to turn the former Tri-State Electric building into a restaurant and offices. The company's proposal assumed the Double T building would be demolished.

The other proposal for the sites was withdrawn.
