A former Hagerstown Police Department officer was sentenced Tuesday to 60 days in jail after pleading guilty to malicious destruction of property.

In exchange for the plea, three other charges against Wayne Lee Ditlow were dropped.

In March, Ditlow, 34, of 1005 Fairview Road, Hagerstown, kicked in the front door of his ex-wife's home on East Franklin Street and grabbed her by the throat as she called police for help, Hagerstown Police alleged.

Ditlow initially also was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary and second-degree assault, but those charges were dropped in exchange for the plea.
