R&R Trim wins third national title

VALDOSTA, Ga. - It took R&R Trim two tries, but it got it right for a third time.

R&R Trim bounced back in the second game of the championship final to score a 25-8 victory over Deluxe Bakery of Trenton, N.J., to win the ASA Class B national championship on Sunday. It was R&R Trim's third national title in seven years.

R&R advanced through the tournament field undefeated through seven games until it reached the finals. Deluxe Bakery, the losers' bracket champions, knocked off the Hagerstown team 30-26 to force the winner-take-all game.

R&R Trim's third baseman Jeff Reynolds and pitcher Jerome Patterson shared tournament MVP honors. Reynolds hit .780 for the tournament while Patterson finished with a .740 average.

Mick Byers (.728), Bill Bakner (.718), Brett Livingston (.710) and Rocky Wills (.700) were all named first-team All-Americans. Steve Hartle, Glenn Himes and John Hartle all hit better than .600 for the tournament.

R&R Trim advances to the ASA East-West World Series on Oct. 19-22 in Montgomery, Ala.
