Sponagle tops Vibrant field

Brad Sponagle ran the fifth annual Vibrant Life 5K in 18 minutes, 12 seconds to win at The Review Herald grounds Sunday. Mark Vann (18:27) was second and Michael Fitzgerald (18:58) was third, as well as the Masters division winner.

Chelsea Githens, 13, won the women's race in 23:43. Jennifer Joyce (24:22) was second and Tameron Marriner (24:48) was third. Margaret Horioka (26:22) was fifth overall and the Masters winner.


Grace wins tourney

WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 8 Grace Academy went 4-0 to win the Pumpkin Tournament Saturday, defeating Cumberland Valley 15-7, 15-13 in the final. Susanna Hill was named the tourney's MVP with 19 kills and 23 assists. Lauren Durbin (30 kills and six blocks) and Ashley Michael (27 assists) were named to the All-Tournament team.

Highland View 3 - Collegedale 2

Ryan Jackson scored the game-winner assisted by Edinaldo Martins off a corner kick in the second half Saturday. Highland View (3-5) took a 2-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Martins and an own goal. Also for the Tartans, who outshot Collegedale 18-14, Brian Gauthier made 14 saves.

Collegedale tied the game, 2-2, on goals by Ryan Litchfield and Adam Litchfield.


Hun School 49 - Mercersburg 28

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Hun School (1-1, 1-1) lit up the air with six touchdown passes and racked up 520 yards of total offense to spoil Mercersburg Academy's Mid- Atlantic Prep League opener Saturday.

For the Blue Storm (0-3, 0-1), quarterback Joey Yurish completed 8 of 23 passes for 153 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Yurish connected to Aaron Barnette for TD strikes of 64 and 30 yards. Also for Mercersburg, Kenan Wright returned a kickoff 80 yards for a TD and Ricco Grino scored on a 29-yard run.

Warriors to be honored

The 2002 Boonsboro High School state champion baseball team will be honored at halftime of Friday's Walkersville at Boonsboro football game.

Boonsboro won the Class 1A title, defeating Catoctin 11-3 in the state final.
