Forum on age-related blindness set



Hagerstown Community College will present a free public forum on Macular Degeneration and Cataract on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Kepler Theater.

Ophthalmologists from the Wilmer Eye Institute and Bergman Eye Associates will discuss the clinical manifestations, pathology, risk factors, incidence and treatment of these most common causes of loss of vision in the over-50 age group. Data from recent studies will be discussed, along with visual aids and tips for travelers with low vision.

Drug seminars for nurses offered



The Center for Continuing Education at Hagerstown Community College is offering a pharmacology review in three day-long seminars for nurses, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals.

With the new drugs that are introduced to the market each day, it's essential for health care professionals to learn about the uses of medications, nursing care implications and the essential lab values to monitor.

Sessions are Saturday, Sept. 28, from 8 a.m. to 3:34 p.m. in HCC's Advanced Technology Center; Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in HCC's Advanced Technology Center, and Friday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in HCC's Valley Mall Training Center.

The program will provide 6.9 contact hours of professional continuing education for each day of this series.

Free massages given to volunteers



BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Synergy Healing Arts Center and Massage School is seeking pregnant, infant or senior volunteers to receive free massages from those in massage training.

Four- to 9-month pregnant women must be in good health or have their doctor's written permission. The clinic will be Thursday, Oct. 31, from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Infants and children ages 2 months to 12 years must be in good health and accompanied by a parent or guardian. The clinic will be Thursday, Nov. 7, from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The senior clinic is open to ages 66 and older. It will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 10:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
