MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Allie Shannon scored the game-winner unassisted with four minutes left in double overtime as No. 6 Middletown defeated No. 7 Smithsburg 1-0 in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League contest Thursday night.

"You're battling in the box for a loose ball, she put a foot on it, got a shot off and it got by," Leopards coach Bill Fowkes said. "We had a couple of chances ... It was just a phenominal game."

Lisa Belella made 14 saves for Smithsburg (3-2, 1-1). Jenny Wheeler earned the shutout with six saves for Middletown (4-2, 3-0).

No. 4 Jefferson 3, No. 1 Martinsburg 2


SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Gaby Carstens scored the game-winning goal as Jefferson defeated Martinsburg despite being outshot, 20-4.

Amy Warnick and Jill Bradley also scored for the Cougars (6-1, 2-0 Apple valley League). Jade Zagarella, Amy Lancaster and Cara Vogler had assists, while Laura McIlroy made 18 saves.

Laurel Bobo and Jessica Hawbaker scored for Martinsburg (5-2). JV: Jefferson, 3-0.

CROFTON, Md. - Emily Sikes had a goal and an assist, Kristin Kremers scored a goal and Marilyn Radcliff and Lindsay Hoffman combined on a double assist for Thomas Johnson (3-1).

Jennifer Hoffman scored the game-winning goal with two minutes left on a header for Hedgesville. Erin Eifert and Jenifer Rush each scored a goal for the Eagles as they outshot Goretti, 25-12.

Marett Diamond and Emily Favret both had a goal and Morgan Adkins had an assist, while Margot Weneck had 12 saves in goal for St. Maria Goretti (1-6).

Catoctin 2, No. 8 Walkersville 1


THURMONT, Md. - Marissa Canella and Brittany Reever each had a goal for Catoctin (3-3), as the Cougars won in overtime. Sarah Huber scored for Walkersville.

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Alicia Danaher scored on an assist from Meghan Sherman, and Greta Wengenroth scored on an assist from Jessica White for the Railroaders (2-3, 2-0), who outshot the Rebels, 21-2. Brianna Jamison had 16 saves for South.

WILLIAMSPORT - Meggan McGill scored two goals and an assist, Laura Scuffins had two goals, Jessica Clingen had a goal and an assist, Michelle Mummert scored a goal and both Maggie Miller and Emilee van Norden had assists for Williamsport (3-1, 1-0).

Rachel Horst and Steph McGee each scored for Boonsboro.

Matt Myers scored on a penalty kick for the only score for James Buchanan (5-3-1, 3-2-1 Mid-Penn Colonial), while Travis High had four saves.

CLEAR SPRING - Drew Holler had four goals, three unassisted, and Michael Snyder scored a goal for Clear Spring as the Blazers defeated Boonsboro.

Adam Long and Tommy Stotler had a goal apiece and Josh Barnhart had 13 saves for Clear Spring (3-3-1).
