Signs to be installed in neighborhood

The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday authorized the Public Works Department to install 15 to 20 signs purchased by the Broadway North Neighborhoods First group.

The signs, which will be placed around the neighborhood, state: "Welcome to our Neighborhood ... where neighbors are cherished and property is respected."

Councilman suggests candidate forum

Hagerstown Councilman Kristin Aleshire on Tuesday suggested the city government, perhaps working with other municipalities in the area, hold a forum for the 10 candidates who will be on the November ballot for five Washington County Commissioners seats.

Aleshire said he can think of at least 10 questions he'd like to ask the 10 candidates.

He said he would like to hear their positions and "see if they even understand the question."

Events impress council member

Hagertown Councilman Lewis Metzner said the "Gods and Generals" movie sneak peek and the 140th anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of Antietam were "fantastic."

"We have more things going on here now than you can shake a stick at," Metzner said.
