Crumbs from the Cracker Barrel

September 18, 2002

In 1899 the two-room Buena Vista School was built in Cascade next to the Wastler store, which also housed the Cascade post office. Across the road from the school was the Buena Vista Spring Station located along the Western Maryland Railway tracks 70.5 miles from Baltimore. The cost of a single fare from Baltimore to Cascade was $2.13, three cents more than the fare for the Highland Station located less than one-half mile to the northeast.
