A. Mary Gift

SMITHSBURG - A. Mary Gift, 73, of Smithsburg Pike, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at her home.

Born July 15, 1929, in Still Pond, Md., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Eliza Mae Lowery Collins Sr.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Shanks Church of the Brethren in Greencastle, Pa.

She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of DAV.

She is survived by her husband, Donnel E. Gift, whom she married Jan. 15, 1947; five daughters, Jean Strite of Hagerstown, Janet R. Kline of Sharpsburg, Joann E. Brant and Nancy E. Rice, both of Greencastle, Pa., and Ruth G. Lorenz of Baltimore; one son, Leslie A. Gift of Greencastle; one brother, Francis Collins of Dover, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a cousin.

She was preceded in death by one brother, William H. Collins Jr.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shanks Church of the Brethren. Pastor Paul Heisey and the Rev. William Dore will officiate. Burial will be in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Joy R. Schroyer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Joy R. Peters Schroyer, 75, of 525 Shelley Ave., died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at her home.

Born April 10, 1927, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond J. and Mary Agnes Coyle Peters.

She attended Waynesboro schools.

She was employed by Marriott Food Service.

She had been a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waynesboro.

She is survived by two sisters, Victoria Lucas of Fayetteville, Pa., and Angela King of Asheville, Tenn.; three brothers, Philip Peters and Clarence Peters, both of Waynesboro, and Charles Peters of Petersburg, Va.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Sgt. Lawson J. Schroyer III in 1968; and one brother, Carl Peters.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Cemetery in Waynesboro. The Rev. Thomas J. Hemler will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.




Robert M. Smetzer

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Robert M. "Bob" Smetzer, 58, of 6158 Furnace Road, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at his home.

Born Sept. 2, 1944, in South Mountain, Pa., he was the son of the late George I. Smetzer and Ada R. Daywalt Baker.

He attended schools in Quincy, Pa.

Prior to retirement in 1985, he worked in the vise department of Landis Tool Co., in Waynesboro. He had been employed by South Mountain Restoration Center and Musselman's.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy L. Hann Smetzer, whom he married Sept. 25, 1995; two daughters, Hope E. Dauge of South Mountain and Amy Jo Smetzer of Waynesboro; three sons, Robert J. Smetzer, Michael D. Smetzer and James R. Smetzer, all of South Mountain; one stepdaughter, Cynthia M. Bricker of Zullinger, Pa.; one stepson, Charles T. Zeek Jr. of Zullinger; two brothers, George R. Smetzer of Waynesboro and Richard Smetzer of South Mountain; three half-sisters; 10 half-brothers; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. Lynn D. Trutt will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.




Jesse A. Paxton

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jesse A. Paxton, 86, of Menno Haven, and formerly of 891 Geyer Drive, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Menno Haven.

Born Aug. 27, 1916, in Greene Township, Pa., he was the son of the late David S. and Sarah Burkhart Paxton.

He was a salesman for Forrester's Lincoln Mercury, Chambersburg, for 20 years, retiring in 1983. He had been employed by Chambersburg Implement Co. and L.S. Cook Implement Co., Chambersburg.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.

He was a member of Greene Township Lions Club, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and Izaak Walton League of America.

He is survived by his wife, E. Lucille Kerns Paxton, whom he married Jan. 3, 1942; one son, Robert J. Paxton of Chambersburg; one daughter, Susan DeVos of Chambersburg; one sister, Margaret Lehman of Chambersburg; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Revs. Charles F. Kind and James W. Herman will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, with military services by members of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at noon at the funeral home.




Paul B. Revell

ELKTON, Md. - Paul Benjamin Revell, 65, of Elkton, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002.

Born June 6, 1937, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Carlton C. and Irene Johnson Revell.

He was a 1955 graduate of Boonsboro High School.
