  • About 18,000 of Washington County residents, or about 11 percent of the population, are over age 65.

  • There are about 40,000 Washington County boomers- those who were born between 1946 and 1964.

  • The total county population in 2000 was 131,923.

  • About 35 million, or 12 percent, of the United States population is over 65.

  • About 9.7 million, or 30 percent of the people over 65, live alone.

  • By the year 2030, the number of people over 65 in the United States is expected to double to about 70 million.

    Provides "walk-ins" or telephone callers with information and assistance concerning programs for the elderly, as well as providing some programs of its own.
