Girl injured in go-cart accident at speedway

Rescue crews were called to Hagerstown Speedway on Friday after a 14-year-old girl was injured in a go-cart accident around 9 p.m., a Washington County Emergency Services dispatcher said.

Additional information was unavailable Friday evening.

Teenager faces charges in connection with fight

A Hagerstown teenager was charged with first-degree assault after a fight in which another juvenile was hit with a baseball bat Friday night in the 1600 block of Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown City Police said.

Police said the 16-year-old is accused of hitting the victim over the head with the bat at 7:24 p.m. because he believed his dog was being teased.

The victim was being treated at Washington County Hospital on Friday night, police said. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.


Teen found in street is taken to hospital

A 17-year-old male was taken to Washington County Hospital after he was found lying on the street Friday night suffering from an apparent overdose, Hagerstown City Police said.

The teenager, who was found on East Baltimore Street around 9 p.m., may have taken the drug oxycontin, police said.

Five are arrested in undercover drug sting

Hagerstown City Police arrested five people Thursday evening in an undercover drug sting in the areas of Murph Avenue and East Franklin Street.

Police said officers posed as crack cocaine dealers during the joint investigation by the city's Street Crimes Unit and the Washington County Narcotics Task Force.

The following people were each charged with possession of a noncontrolled substance:

  • Russ Neal Wade of 123 McComas St., Hagerstown.

  • Rickey Edward Purnell of 2100 Martin's Landing Circle, Martinsburg, W.Va.

  • Ryan John Hood of 126 S. Church St., Martinsburg.

  • Donald Lee Spence of 117 S. Locust St., Hagerstown.

  • Susan Lynn Faurenbach of 17466 Fair Oaks Court, Hagerstown.

Police investigate theft from car in Pa.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a theft from a car, police said Friday.

A compact disc player was stolen from a 1993 Ford Probe parked in the 800 block of Lincoln Way West, police said. The rear driver's side window was smashed by a blunt instrument, police said.

The theft occurred between 8 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. Friday, police said.
