Mary V. Durst

Mary Vivian Louise Durst, 80, of 11233 Lakeside Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Clearview Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born Dec. 10, 1921, in Wilton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late David Anthony and Agnes Gardner Scaletta.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Robert Durst, in 1999.

She worked as a nurses' aide for six years in Cumberland, Md.; and for an electronics company in Rockville, Md.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith C. Durst of Hagerstown; one son, David A. Durst of Stanley, Va.; one sister, Anna J. Simpson of Cumberland; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, William Scaletta, Anthony Scaletta, Robert Scaletta and Eugene Scaletta.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Michael J. Jendrick will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Fox

STATE LINE, Pa. - Mary Elizabeth Fox, 84, of 15610 Clearview Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born June 17, 1918, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles Oliver and Margaret L. Adams Butts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Fox, in 1983.

She was a member of Greencastle (Pa.) Church of the Brethren and Berean Sunday School class.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. Zeigler of Chambersburg; two sons, Ricky L. Fox of Greencastle and Phillip L. Fox of Chewsville; one brother, James C. Butts of Westminster, Md.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Terry L. Fox; and two brothers, Charles R. Butts and John O. Butts.

Services will be private.

Private burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Greencastle Church of the Brethren, 36 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225; or Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, 5000 Wissahickon Ave., Box 42938, Philadelphia, PA 19101.

Robert L. Hurley Sr.

Robert Leroy Hurley Sr., 51, of 27 1/2 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 9, 1950, in Frederick County, Md., he was the son of the late Arnold G. and Alice Cool Hurley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Hessong Hurley, in 1995.

He was employed by Han and Han Painting Contractors as a foreman.

He is survived by four daughters, Christy Miller of Thurmont, Md., Candy Miller, Angela Hurley and Sherry Hurley, all of Hagerstown; three sons, Bobby Hurley Jr., Arnold Hurley and Dennis Hurley, all of Hagerstown; three sisters, Teresa Johnson of Keymar, Md., Kathy Green of Thurmont and Mary Kehne of Frederick, Md.; five brothers, Gary Hurley of Fairfield, Pa., Alan Hurley of Rocky Ridge, Md., Richard Hurley of Walkersville, Md., Dennis Hurley and Guy Hurley, both of Thurmont; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Smith will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown.




George E. Bennett Sr.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - George E. Bennett Sr., 81, of 455 Atherton Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born July 8, 1921, in Rayne, Pa., he was the son of the late Sylvester and Mary Creighton Bennett.

He worked for H.L. Coder and Son in Chambersburg for 20 years; and retired from Kott-Camp Construction in Chambersburg after 10 years.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen M. Lautenslager Bennett; one daughter, Mary Ann Bennett of Chambersburg; two sons, Terry L. Bennett of Aurora, Colo., and George E. Bennett Jr. of Chambersburg; one brother, William Bennett of Fredericksburg, Va.; five granddaughters and four grandsons.

He was preceded in death by 11 sisters and brothers.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Olivet United Brethren Church, Chambersburg. The Rev. Stan McCammon will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg; and Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.




Johanna W. Youngblood

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Johanna W. Youngblood, 68, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at her home.

Born June 18, 1934, in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Barbara Wollmer Wolf.

She was employed as executive housekeeper by the Bavarian Inn.
