Pa. man killed in quarry accident

FREDERICK, Md. - The operator of a drill rig that overturned Tuesday afternoon at the LaFarge Quarry died of his injuries, Frederick City Police said.

Ray Cox, a resident of Hanover, Pa., was found pinned inside the cab of his rig at 1:31 p.m., police said.

Cox, described as in his mid 50s, was extricated from the wreck. His body was taken to the Office of Maryland Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy.

When police arrived at the quarry, they met emergency medical service personnel who confirmed that Cox died of his injuries.

Through the use of a crane and the boom of a heavy tow truck, the drilling rig was moved to the point where the victim could be removed.

The rest of the investigation will be conducted by the Federal Mine Safety and Health agency, police said.

Police have secured the scene pending arrival of the federal investigators.
