Person flees after car flips on county road

A person who was in a car that rolled over on Little Antietam Road Friday got out and ran into the woods, according to a Washington County emergency dispatcher.

A police helicopter was called in to help look for the person but with no success, the dispatcher said.

Maryland State Police said the car, which flipped shortly after 9 p.m., was an older model Toyota with a Pennsylvania license plate.

State troopers and a Washington County Sheriff's Department K-9 unit were still searching for the person at about 10:15 p.m.

Police seek person who struck horse in head

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are looking for someone who reportedly entered an unlocked barn and struck a horse in the head with an unknown object.

The incident, which is being considered a burglary, happened between 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 a.m. on Wednesday at 5844-6 Debbie Lane, police said.


Tractor-trailer accident causes backup on I-70

FREDERICK, Md. - The driver of a tractor-trailer hauling 37,000 pounds of frozen food was treated and released from a Baltimore hospital after the vehicle overturned on Interstate 70 east of Monument Road Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman and Maryland State Police said.

Police said Alfred Ruffin, 35, of Chicago, was attempting to change lanes east on I-70 at 3:30 a.m. when his load shifted and the tractor-trailer overturned and skidded on its side. The tractor-trailer came to rest on the right side of the road in a ditch.

Ruffin was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with chest injuries, police said.

One lane of the interstate was closed while workers moved the contents of the tractor-trailer to another vehicle. Traffic east on Interstate 70 was diverted at Md. 66 near Smithsburg and routed south on Md. 66 and east on U.S. 40 as cars were backed up as much as 12 miles, police said.

Workers were able to turn the tractor-trailer upright and remove it from the road around 5 p.m. The closed lane on I-70 was then reopened, police said.

Man is injured when vehicle leaves road

FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick man was injured when his vehicle left the road on Buckeystown Pike and struck a utility pole Thursday, the Frederick County Sheriff's Department said.

Craig Orlando Wallace, 34, was treated at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and released, police said.

Police said Wallace was driving a 1998 Chrysler Concorde on Buckeystown Pike near Marcies Choice Lane when he swerved and crossed the center line at 7:29 p.m.

The vehicle then left the road and struck the utility pole, police said.

Pa. man still critical following accident

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A Greencastle man injured in a Wednesday accident on Worleytown Road remained in critical condition Friday at Hershey Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Timothy S. Martin, 29, was flown to Hershey Medical Center following the 7:40 a.m. accident in the 13800 block of Worleytown Road, police said.

The crash occurred when Martin was driving a motorcycle eastbound on Worleytown Road. He was unable to slow down in time for stopped traffic and hit the rear of a 1998 Chevrolet truck, police said.

Tex Myers, 63, of Greencastle, the driver of the truck, was not injured, police said.
