Eagles win Invitational

BECKLEY, W.Va. - Hedgesville defeated defending W.Va. AAA state champion Capital in the semifinals, then gained a measure of revenge on Parkersburg South in winning the Woodrow Wilson Invitational on Saturday.

The Eagles (7-1, 1-0 Apple Valley League) defeated Huntington, Greater Beckley and Woodrow Wilson in pool play, but lost to Parkersburg South.

Undaunted, Hedgesville defeated Capital 15-9, 10-15, 15-12 in the semifinals and then knocked off Parkersburg South 15-12, 10-15, 15-12 for the title.

All-Tournament selection Ashley Copenhaver had 26 service points, 17 blocks and 38 kills to lead the Eagles. Tracey Regalbuto had 40 service points and 68 assists, while Keri Jackson had 20 service points and 36 kills.



Williamsport 4, Clear Spring 0

CLEAR SPRING - Rhett Troxell scored twice on Saturday, while Ben Jordan and Danny Gossard added strikes for the Wildcats (2-1) Ryan Martin earned the shutout in goal. Clear Spring falls to 1-2.


Chesapeake 3, HCC 2

The Hawks outshot Chesapeake 27-19 but lost in their season opener at home.

Tim Koontz and Chris Lantz scored for Hagerstown Community College (0-1, 0-1 Maryland JuCo).
