Keeney scores five TDs as Middletown tops TJ

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Josh Keeney scored five touchdowns and a two-point conversion while rushing for 213 yards as Middletown dominated Thomas Johnson in the season-opener for both teams.

Keeney carried the ball 28 times and scored three of his touchdowns in the first quarter as the Knights rushed for 274 yards. Middletown, which limited TJ to 47 total yards in the first half, led 34-0 before the Patriots scored.

Luke Spurrier threw two touchdowns, including a 60-yard score, to Nick Wright for TJ.

UNION BRIDGE - Jeremy Ziegler scored the game-winner at the 82:45 mark in overtime. Francis Scott Key took a 1-0 first-half lead on Brad Thompson's unassisted goal. Middletown's Ryan Lingg tied it early in the second half with a score, assisted by Adam House. Middletown keeper Danny Favarulo tallied three saves, while FSK's Matt Baile made four saves. JV: Middletown 2-1.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - James Buchanan oushot Shippensburg 21-19 while Travis High made 13 saves for the Rockets.

Frederick 3, St. Maria Goretti 1

Clarke Feniff had two goals and Adam Szymanski scored a goal as Frederick scored all of its goals in the first half. Jay Gill scored the lone Goretti goal, assisted by Steve Costello. Zane Campbell made five saves for Frederick, and Pat McCullough had 11 saves for Goretti(1-3).

Central Dauphin East 2, Waynesboro 0

COLONIAL PARK, Pa. - James Woodring made 11 saves for Waynesboro (1-1), while Central Dauphin East made 10 saves.

FREDERICK, Md. - Lucas Dowiak scored on a penalty kick and Brandon Bane scored with less than 30 seconds left on an assist by Ronald Fishburne for Thomas Johnson. John Humrick had five saves for Walkersville(0-1), while Gladimir Elysee had four saves for TJ(1-0).

EVERETT, Pa. - Candace Bard had 14 service points and three blocks, Loni Layton had six service blocks, four blocks and nine kills and Kaylie Mellott had six kills for Southern Hulton in the 15-3, 8-15, 15-1 loss Everett. JV: Southern 2-1.

BOONSBORO, Md. - Jessie Ambrose had 19 service points, six aces, eight assists and four kills for Boonsboro in the Warriors' 15-4, 15-4, 7-15, 15-11 win. Sara Beth Williams had 18 points and 11 aces, and Claire Houseknecht had six aces for Boonsboro (1-0). Angie Dietrich had 13 kills, eight service points and four assists, while Jamie Fowler had five kills, six assists and three service points and Brittany Beard had 10 service points for South (0-1).
