City's bulk trash pickup slated to begin this month

The City of Hagerstown will hold its annual fall residential bulk trash curbside cleanup schedule beginning Sept. 23.

All trash is to be placed in front of the residence by the curb by 7 a.m. Any trash cans or containers set out will be picked up as trash.

Collection will only be for the following items: Appliances, furniture, beds, mattresses and similar items that are not normally picked up by the weekly trash haulers.

Items that will not be collected are: Building materials, concrete, dirt/rock/sod, brush, paint, oil, batteries, tires, yard waste (limbs/grass/leaves), household trash, glass, hazardous or dangerous materials, propane/oil/gas tanks, and medical/commercial waste.


The fall pickup schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, Sept. 23 - From the west side of North Potomac Street to the north side of West Washington Street (U.S. 40), and all areas in between.

  • Thursday, Sept. 26 - From the north side of East Washington Street (U.S. 40) to the east side of North Potomac Street, and all areas in between.

  • Monday, Sept. 30 - From the south side of West Washington Avenue (U.S. 40) to the west side of South Potomac Street, and all areas in between.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 2 - From the east side of South Potomac Street to the south side of East Washington Street (U.S. 40), and all areas in between.

If you miss your scheduled pickup day, you may take your items to the dumpster site scheduled for Oct. 14 through 19. The dumpster site is at the intersection of South Potomac Street and West Memorial Boulevard, across from Bester Elementary School. Entry can be made from South Potomac Street by making a right-hand turn into the alley just past New Deal Truck Parts and Service.

Dumping hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The following items are not permitted in the dumpsters: Tires, batteries, paint, chemical wastes or any other hazardous waste. Also, items that contain freon such as refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers, are not permitted.

The curbside pickup and dumpster program are for city residents only.
