Police report outlines number of calls, arrests

SMITHSBURG - Smithsburg police responded to 140 calls for service in August, Chief Mike Potter said Tuesday.

Police made five adult arrests for simple assault, driving while intoxicated, fugitive, underage possession of alcohol and theft over $500, according to a monthly police report.

Police made two juvenile arrests for theft over $500, according to the report.

Police issued 13 moving citations, 27 parking tickets, 28 written warnings and two civil citations, the report states.

Pride Days committee meeting Sept. 19

SMITHSBURG - The Smithsburg Pride Days committee will meet in the Heritage Room at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 to discuss this year's festival and start making plans for next year, Committee Chairman Charlie Slick said Tuesday.

Anyone with fresh ideas, suggestions or the will to volunteer is welcome to attend, he said.

Jeter named alternate on zoning board

SMITHSBURG - The Smithsburg Town Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to appoint Kevin Jeter as an alternate on the town's Board of Zoning Appeals.
