The Washington County Sheriff's Department has issued citations to a driver involved in an Aug. 18 accident in which the chief of the Potomac Valley Volunteer Fire Co. was injured, Sgt. Mark Knight said Thursday.

Scott Matthew Morris, 21, of 60 St. Paul St., Boonsboro, was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while under the influence per se, driving while impaired with alcohol, failure to drive right of center and reckless driving, Knight said.

Knight said he was not sure when the citations were issued.

The fire chief, Ronnie Leroy Gray, 52, of 18726 Nick Road, Sharpsburg, was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore following a head-on car accident at 3:30 a.m. Aug. 18.

Gray was released from the Shock Trauma Center on Aug. 22, a spokesperson there said.

Gray was driving a 1988 Plymouth Reliant on Harpers Ferry Road near Hoffmaster Road when his Reliant was struck head-on by a 2002 Saturn, driven by Morris, traveling on the wrong side of the road, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

Gray's own fire company was one of the first to respond, said Tim Gargana, paramedic supervisor at Sharpsburg Area Emergency Medical Services Inc.

The Saturn's front seat passenger was flown to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md., police said.

Jessica Dale Hamilton, 20, of 9 Hopewell Road, Williamsport, was released on Aug. 22, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Morris was treated at Washington County Hospital and released, police said.

Three back seat passengers in the Saturn also were treated at Washington County Hospital and released, police said.
