August 29, 2002

United Way of Washington County's 2002 giving campaign is off to a strong start with more than $442,000 in contributions from "Pacesetter" donors, United Way Executive Director James Taylor said Wednesday.

The fall giving campaign started Wednesday with the Day of Caring.

Pre-campaign employee and corporate gifts from 14 county agencies and businesses totaled $442,725 - about 25 percent of the $1.7 million goal for this year's campaign, Taylor said.

Pacesetters include: Allegheny Energy, Beachley Furniture, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, The Bon-Ton, Boy Scouts Mason-Dixon Council, Citicorp, F&M Bank, Girls Inc., Home Depot, Keller-Stonebraker Insurance, Parent-Child Center, United Parcel Service, United Way of Washington County and Verizon.

The campaign runs through Dec. 12.
