August 29, 2002|by TARA REILLY

The Washington County Special Operations Team puts its new special support vehicle on display for the Washington County Commissioners and the public at Tuesday night's commissioners meeting at the Shafer Park Community Center in Boonsboro.

The vehicle went into service on Tuesday. The truck is equipped for the team's various missions, including hazardous materials services, mountain rescue, confined space extractions and other services not normally performed by fire and rescue companies.

Special Operations Team Chief John Bentley said the vehicle is equipped with devices like those used in the Sept. 11 rescue work in New York and at the Pentagon.

The Special Operations Team also presented the commissioners with a framed poster of the American flag being raised by firefighters at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11.
