"Meet the Warriors" night

BOONSBORO - Wednesday, Aug. 28, doors open at 6:30 p.m., program at 7 p.m., Boonsboro High School gymnasium. Warrior Wear apparel will be sold and memberships for the Boonsboro Athletic Boosters may be purchased. Fall sports teams and players will be introduced. The boosters' purpose is to raise funds for athletic programs, equipment and field upgrades. Anyone interested in Warriors' athletics may attend.

Chicken barbecue and pit beef sandwich sale

FUNKSTOWN - Saturday, Aug. 31, 9:30 a.m. until sold out, behind Funkstown Volunteer Fire Station. Pit beef sandwich or one half chicken is $4; meal is $5, and includes a sandwich or one half chicken, firehouse beans and coleslaw. Proceeds will be used toward new equipment for the rescue squad.

BOONSBORO - Saturday, Aug. 31, doors open at 4 p.m., bingo starts at 6:30 p.m., First Hose Co. of Boonsboro, 5 St. Paul St. Tickets are $10. All new, filled baskets. Seventh annual Hanover Chili Cookoff

HANOVER, Pa. - Sponsored by KClinger's Tavern, Sunday, Sept. 1, gates open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., ball field behind KClinger's Tavern, off Forney Ave. Admission is $4 in advance; $5 at the gate. This is a Chili Appreciation Society International sanctioned event, named the CASI Pennsylvania Open. The top three Pennsylvania residents will qualify for the National Chili Championship in Terlingua, Texas. There are trophies in several categories. Games throughout the day include a jalepeno-eating contest, hollering contest, dunking booth and more. Entertainment includes Groovin' Seed, The BADLEES and Flat Top. The Baltimore Oriole bird will appear from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 93.5 WTPA's Chris James will do a live remote from noon to 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit several community projects.
