Norma J. Birch

Norma Jean Birch, 71, of 10335 Mar Rock Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 27, 1931, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Pearl Isabele Dixon Bladen.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband, Geoffrey Blackburne Birch; a daughter, Kathleen M. Wehrle of Fairfax, Va.; a son, Andrew G. Wehrle of Hagerstown; three stepdaughters, Patricia L. Lewis of Damascus, Md., Debra J. Low of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., and Barbara L. Poell of Leesburg, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel M. Wehrle, and a stepson, Geoffrey F. Birch.

Services and burial will be private.

Roy A. MacMichael

Roy A. MacMichael, 85, of Hagerstown, who died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, was born Oct. 21, 1916, and was a member of The Imperials for more than 43 years.




Lawrence D. Durrette

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lawrence David Durrette, 55, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Oct. 9, 1946, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Elizabeth Marie Farrell Zacharias of Martinsburg and the late Lawrence Durrette.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn McBain Durrette; a brother, Joseph Durrette of Martinsburg; and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Edward Zacharias.

Private graveside services will be at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Anna I. Swartz

Anna Irene Swartz, 79, of 10038 Pleasant View Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 25, 1923, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Theodore Martin and Helen Marshall Myers.

She was a member of Hagerstown Bible Church where she was an interpreter for the hearing impaired.

She is survived by her husband, Jacob B. Swartz; two daughters, Kathy Merritt of Columbus, Ga., and Pamela Markel of Pinesburg, Md.; three sons, Gary Swartz of Roanoke, Va., Jeffrey Swartz of Hagerstown and Daniel Swartz of Cadiz, Ky.; four sisters, Doris Durbin of Hagerstown, Beatrice Lowry of Hagerstown, Delores Sowers of Chewsville and Gloria Sneckenberger of Hagerstown; two brothers, Vernon Myers and T. Wayne Myers, both of Hagerstown; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Hill, and a brother, James Myers.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Revs. Dale R. Carver and Gerald D. Carbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

David G. Orr

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - David George Orr, 48, of Kearneysville, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at his home.

Born May 11, 1954, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Neva Wallace Orr of Kearneysville.

He was a packaging specialist for Fairchild Industries and Orbital Sciences.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, M. Kay Bane of Summit Point, W.Va.; a brother, John S. Orr of Kearneysville; two nieces; and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va.
