Yes, "Our scoop on ice cream ... Herald-Mail staffers choose their favorites" - a survey of five local ice creameries - was apparently well read Aug. 14.

We're glad and we love to hear from readers:

Priscilla Harsh of Clopper Orchards in Smithsburg called to tell us that her family's orchard store sells hand-dipped ice cream, including some prepared with home-grown fresh peaches. She was surprised their peach ice cream wasn't included in our survey and invited me out to take a taste.

You're on, Ms. Harsh.

Carol Austin of Hagerstown e-mailed. She considers Hershey's coffee the best in several states. It's also available in Maugansville and at the shop across from FEDEX on Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown, she says. From the grocery store, she rates Turkey Hill the best vanilla around.

Ice cream is a splurge, she says. "If I can't have those, I do without."

Two Rococco diners contacted me to tell me about the wonderful ice cream at the downtown Hagerstown restaurant. Alice - sorry, I didn't catch your last name on your voice mail message - said the peach ice cream is wonderful.

William A. Gindlesperger of Chambersburg, Pa., wrote a letter to the editor that's published in today's papers. He has a way with words as well as a taste for ice cream.

He extols the virtues of ice cream in general, Roccoco in particular. He recommends "pistachio, anything with nuts or hunks of chocolate, or for that matter any flavor served alongside other Roccoco home-made desserts."

Thank you all for reading and recommending.
