Faith Parker Mentzer

Mathematics teacher, Western Heights Middle School

Family: Husband, Frank W. Mentzer; sons, Clifford Jones and Heath Mentzer; two grandsons.

Education: Bachelor of arts from Hood College; master's from Coppin State; additional post graduate studies at Hood College.

Mentor: Ethel "Mom" Irvine, seventh-grade mathematics teacher at the old Washington Street School.

Favorite part of the job: "My students. I really enjoy seeing the light go on when they finally grasp a concept presented."

Least favorite part of the job: "Having more and more curriculum, paperwork, meetings, etc., added to what I already have to accomplish."

Biggest challenge of your job: "Having to be all things - teacher, mentor, parent, disciplinarian, counselor and confidant - to the students."


Favorite music: Opera, classical, 1950s and 1960s pop.

Favorite car: Cadillac.

Favorite TV show: "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

Hobbies: "Singing with several choral groups, reading, putting on musicals at my school, seeing plays and dining out."
