Adoption information session set

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mountain Valley Adoption Services will hold an informational meeting about adoption Thursday, Sept. 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Mountain Valley Center, 449 Lincoln Way East. Participants will learn about the need for adoptive parents, the kind of children waiting to be adopted, and the process of adoption. There is no obligation to become adoptive parents at this meeting.

Hospice: Read a book

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Hospice Reading Group has chosen the book, "Caring in Remembered Ways: The Fruit of Seeing Deeply," by Maggie Steincrohn Davis as their October selection. The group will meet Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. to discuss the book.

The Hospice Reading Group was started several years ago as an effort to encourage more community dialogue on end-of-life issues. Both fiction and non-fiction books are read and discussed. The group also recently viewed "Wit," starring Emma Thompson, the story of a middle-aged college professor fighting aggressive ovarian cancer. Local playwright, Joe McCabe, helps facilitate the discussion.

Training for trainers

The Sports Connection and NDEITA, a non-profit fitness professional association, are cosponsoring a two-day personal trainer workshop Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6, at 8 a.m. each day, at The Sports Connection Health and Fitness, 901 Dual Highway, Clarion Inn, Hagerstown.
