Suns lose early, late

August 19, 2002

AUGUSTA, Ga. - After an extra-innings affair on Saturday in Savannah, Ga., the Hagerstown Suns kind of caught a break Sunday because rain shortened the game against the Augusta GreenJackets to just 7 1/2 innings.

Still, both games ended in losses which dropped Hagerstown to 24-32.

Sunday, Hagerstown lost a sluggers-duel to Augusta, 10-9. Julian benavidez had three hits and three RBI, Robbie Meyer and Miguel Miranda each had two hits and Justin Knoedler had two RBI.

Still, Augusta scored seven in the third inning against Todd Uzzell (2-6), who gutted out six innings of work.

Saturday's 3-2 loss in 16 innings to Savannah was tougher for Hagerstown. The Suns led 2-0 behind Ryan Hannaman, who struck out 10 in seven innings. But Savannah scored twice in the eighth against Leiby Guzman before scoring the game-winner against Daniel Padgett (0-1).

Benavidez, who hit a two-run homer, and Miranda each had two hits in the Savannah game.
