Anniversary announcements for 8/17

The Helds

Jerry and Margaret Held of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Catholic War Vets in Northampton, Pa. More than 100 friends and family participated in the event, hosted by the Helds, as well as their son and his wife, Jerry and Tammy Held of Yorktown, Va.

The Helds were married July 19, 1952, at St. John's Catholic Church in Stiles, Pa.

Mrs. Held worked for Western Electric.

Mr. Held was employed by Bethlehem Steel, then Mack Trucks Inc. He was transferred to Hagerstown by Mack Trucks in 1963, and retired in 1987.

The Mullenixes

Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Mullenix Sr. were honored Sunday, June 16, at Valley Grace Brethren Church for their 60th wedding anniversary. The event was hosted by their five children and spouses, Curtis and Cathy Mullenix, Michael and Barbara Mullenix, Patricia and Mike Waugh, Barbara and Matt Werhoff and Heidi and Rick Smith. Their adopted daughter, Betty Shockey and son, Andrew, of Chicago, were unable to attend.


Approximately 90 guests attended the celebration, including family members from Savannah, Ga., and Chicago.

Ellen Mullenix is the daughter of the late George and Linda Moore. She is a homemaker.

Curtis Mullenix is the son of the late Lewis and Kitty Mullenix. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1980, after 36 years of service.

The Mullenixes have 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Kauffmans

Charles and Mae Kauffman of Boonsboro celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the Old Pike Inn in Boonsboro. The event was hosted by their four children and spouses, Chris and Rich Hawkins, Charles "Skip" and Cindy Kauffman, Kim and Wayne Needy, all of Boonsboro, and Lora and Edward Budnick of Jefferson, Md. Their six grandchildren, granddaughter-in-law and three great-grandchildren also attended the dinner.

The Kauffmans were married Nov. 30, 1946, at Salem United Brethren Church in Keedysville by the Rev. Homer Kendall.

Mrs. Kauffman is the former Orpha Mae Hetzel, daughter of the late John Luther and Mary Eva (Drenner) Hetzel. She worked for several years at the Hagerstown Shoe Co. and has since been a homemaker.

Charles Franklin Kauffman Sr. is the son of the late Charles Samuel and Katharine Clopper Kauffman of Sharpsburg. He is a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946. He retired from Lonestar Cement and the Department of the Interior.
