John S. Burker Sr.

John S. Burker Sr., 76, of Garden Lane, Hagerstown, and formerly of Dundalk, Md., died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 13, 1925, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Raymond F. and May Lillian Virginia Lowery Burker.

His wife, Rosa L. Burker, died in 2001.

He was employed by Baltimore County Utility, retiring in 1991.

He is survived by three daughters, Debra DeHart of Hagerstown, Marie Myers of Frederick, Md., and Lisa Abrams of Baltimore; four sons, Robert Burker of Marlowe, W.Va., Richard Burker and John Burker Jr., both of Hagerstown, and Marvin Burker of Frederick; one sister, Catherine Kennedy of Hagerstown; four brothers, Marvin Burker of Boonsboro, Jacob Burker of Hagerstown, George Burker of Clear Spring, and Franklin Burker of Cavetown; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Spidle.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.




Steven L. Williams

SANFORD, N.C. - Steven Lynn Williams, 35, of 208 Ribbon Oak Court, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 24, 1966, in Hagerstown, he was the son of David E. Williams of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Sara J. Bowers Scott of Little Orleans, Md.

He was serving in the U.S. Air Force. He served 14 years in law enforcement and then cross-trained as load master with the 41st Air Lift Squadron, Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, N.C.

He was a member of Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 16 years, Donna Jean Noll-Williams; two daughters, Brandi L. Williams and Alexis M. Williams, both at home; one brother, David E. Williams Jr. of Anchorage, Ala.; one stepbrother, Richard L. Scott of Hagerstown; three stepsisters, Debra Hoover, Pam Scott and Melissa Fowler, all of Hagerstown; and maternal grandfather, Charles J. Bowers of Williamsport.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Burial will be in Rocky Gap Cemetery, Cumberland, Md.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Aaron E. Light

Aaron Eugene Light, 89, of 18018 Sand Wedge Drive, Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born March 6, 1913, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James Monroe and Lilly Bell Everhart Light.

He was employed by Hagerstown Shoe Co., retiring in 1976 after 46 years.

He was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church.

He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 378 and AARP. He previously belonged to the Longmeadow Senior Citizens Bowling League.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Rosalee C. Light; two daughters, JoAnn L. Weaver and Pamalee P. Valentine, both of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Deanna K. Bailey of Williamsport; one brother, William T. Light of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Aaron E. Light Jr.; three sisters, Mildred Donaldson, Edna Henry and Winifred Martin; and two brothers, James M. Light and Russell H. Light.

Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis Emmerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Doris C. Thibault

OAKLAND, N.J. - Doris Caroline Donahue Thibault, 85, of Oakland, and formerly of Franklin Lakes, N.J., Hawthorne, N.J., and Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Oakland Care Center.

She was born in Hartford, Conn.

Her husband, John Thibault, died in 1996.

She was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Washington County Homemakers, Mack Trucks Golden Bulldogs, Leitersburg Homemakers and Leitersburg Seniors.

She is survived by one daughter, Marion Berdan of Franklin Lakes; one sister, Gladys Ascari of Toms River, N.J.; four grandchildren, Richard Berdan, Catherine Del Bianco, Sandra De Ciuceis and Theresa Wells; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at Oakland Memorial Home, Oakland, followed by a funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church, Elmwood Park, N.J. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Paterson, N.J.

Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Irene E. Smith

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Irene E. Smith, 87, of 319 Stonegate Court, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at her home.

Born Feb. 23, 1915, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Mahlon K. and Ada Crouse Cline.

Her husband, Arthur H. "Art" Smith, died May 11, 1989.
