Benefit concert will honor Flight 93 passengers of Sept. 11

FORT LOUDON, Pa. - A benefit concert in honor of those who died aboard United Airlines Flight 93 in Somerset County on Sept. 11 will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at the old fort site behind the Goldfish Barn in Fort Loudon.

"Heroes Remembered" will be held from noon to midnight with eight bands performing rock, country and blues. All proceeds from the concert will go to the Somerset Flight 93 Memorial Fund.

Flight 93 was one of the planes hijacked by terrorists on Sept. 11. It went down in Somerset County as passengers made phone calls to their loved ones from the plane, learned about the Trade Center and Pentagon attacks and attacked the hijackers.

Tickets for the concert are $15 per person, and free for ages 15 and younger. They can be purchased at Keystone Country Store, Milky Way Restaurant and Frontier Western Wear in Fort Loudon; Grand Tan, Fox's West End Tavern and M&S Harley Davidson in Chambersburg, Pa.; Fannettsburg Inn, Lakeview Restaurant and Bar and McMullen's General Store in Fannettsburg, Pa.; Interstate Ford and Kings Court Tanning in Shippensburg, Pa.; Path Valley Restaurant in Spring Run, Pa.; Savage Family Pharmacy in Waynesboro, Pa.; George's Butcher Shop in Roxbury; and Carpenter's World of Music and The Guitar Room in Hagerstown. They can also be purchased at the gate on the day of the concert.

The day's schedule is Coat of Arms at noon, Pulse at 1:30 p.m., Rudy and the Bluefish at 3 p.m., Naked Souls at 4:30 p.m., Top Dead Center at 6 p.m., Possum Holler at 7:30 p.m., Big Marge at 9 p.m., and Cumberland Highway at 10:30 p.m.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets. The concert will be held rain or shine. There will be food vendors and children's activities throughout the day.
