WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Waynesboro AAA office at 2021 E. Main St. closed recently and has merged into new, larger quarters with the Chambersburg AAA office, an agency official said.

The new regional office, which opened Aug. 5 at 1666 Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg, will allow AAA to expand its business, said Wendell LaPrairie, senior vice president for corporate affairs in the association's corporate offices in York, Pa.

He said the new facility, which covers 6,000 square feet of office and retail space, will serve customers in Franklin and Fulton counties.

The agency's Waynesboro office was moved from a downtown storefront to a Wayne Heights location several years ago in an effort to beef up business but it didn't help, LaPrairie said.

In Chambersburg, the agency operated out of an office at 230 Lincoln Way East.

"We'll be leasing twice as much space in the new regional office as we had in Waynesboro and Chambersburg," LaPrairie said.

All of the employees in both offices have moved into the new office, he said.

The merger and move mean a full-time AAA insurance agent in the new office and expansion of its travel and membership services, including trip tickets, maps and tour books, LaPrairie said.

The association also issues driver's licenses and motor vehicle registration renewals in its Pennsylvania offices, a service that will continue in the new office.

It will also greatly expand the office's retail store space. Inventory includes luggage and travel accessories and a line of safari and other clothing.

"We didn't have enough space for that before," LaPrairie said.

The official grand opening for the new office is slated for Monday.
