Fire erupts in two-car garage in Pa.

August 12, 2002

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A fire that erupted in a two-car garage in downtown Waynesboro on Saturday resulted in property losses totaling $100,000, Waynesboro Fire Chief Dale Fishack said.

It took firefighters from the Waynesboro, Chambersburg, New Franklin, Mont Alto and Leitersburg fire departments about 40 minutes to control the blaze at 246 S. Church St., Fishack said.

No one was injured.

The fire started about 6 p.m. when fluid from a vehicle being repaired in the garage, or from a lubricant being used for the repairs, dripped onto a hot light, Fishack said.

The blaze quickly spread throughout the garage, which housed a 1997 pickup truck and equipment for a lawn mower repair business, Fishack said.

The fire spread to three neighboring garages, damaging siding and roof shingles, he said.
