Lampton named to fill GOP committee post

Paula Lampton was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Washington County Republican Central Committee last week.

Lampton, of 10647 Trotter Drive in Hagerstown, will serve until the November election, said Central Committee Chairwoman Mildred "Mickey" Myers.

Lampton chairs the Washington County Planning Commission.

The committee voted to fill a second vacancy on the central committee, but Myers would not release the name because the person had not yet been contacted.

That appointee will also serve until November.

The vacancies were created by the resignations of Paul Toothman and Vikki Nelson, who are running for Washington County Commissioner.

Defeat Mooney group may file complaint

A political action committee working against Sen. Alex X. Mooney, R-Frederick/Washington, may file a complaint with the state about his expense reports.

Mooney claimed expenses for nine days he was off due to eye surgery. He says he caught and corrected the error on the next report, said David "Kip" Koontz, treasurer of the Defeat Mooney Committee.

"We believe that this alleged mistake by Sen. Mooney demonstrates his wanton disregard for the rules of conduct by state legislators and disrespect for the citizens of this district," Koontz said.

Ehrlich's wife expected at local GOP picnic

The picnic is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Smithsburg Community Park. Tickets cost $20.
