Police seek owners of recovered stolen property

August 09, 2002

The Washington County Sheriff's Department is trying to find the owners of property believed to have been stolen from several vehicles between the end of June and Aug. 1.

Hundreds of compact discs, CD cases, power tools and fishing and camping gear were recovered Thursday afternoon after police with a warrant searched for a Nissan Pathfinder sport utility vehicle, Investigator Greg Alton said.

Some of the items were marked "Smitty" and others had "JJQ" written on them with a marker, Alton said.

Police impounded the Pathfinder on Aug. 1 after arresting Thomas Michael Randall, 32, of Hagerstown, on two outstanding warrants for misdemeanor theft, Alton said.

The items are believed to have been stolen from vehicles throughout Washington County, including in Hagerstown. Hagerstown City Police were assisting the sheriff's department in the investigation.
