Robinwood wing to house 16 businesses

When Butler & Byrd Dental Associates ran out of room at its offices on Lincoln Highway in Hagerstown, the decision was made to open a second office in Robinwood Medical Center's new wing.

"There are so many other offices there, we figured some people might appreciate having dental offices there also," Dr. Harold Butler said.

Scheduled to open in mid-August, the $20 million addition to Robinwood Medical Center will house 16 businesses including the dental office, Washington County Hospital spokeswoman Kelly Redmond said.

When the 143,000-square-foot, two-story wing opens, Robinwood Medical Center, encompassing 373,000 square feet, will be the largest medical center in the four-state area.

Businesses lined up to buy and lease suites after plans for a third phase of construction were announced, Redmond said.

Pediatric Ophthalmology of Western Maryland, Urgent Care at Robinwood, Center for Integrative Medicine, Women's Imaging Center and Endoscopy Center at Robinwood are some of the businesses that will occupy the wing, Redmond said.

Urgent Care at Robinwood will provide immediate care - not emergency care - to patients with minor injuries or nonacute illnesses. When people cannot get in to see their physicians, they can go there, Redmond said.

"No appointment is necessary. You just walk in and sign up, and you're taken in the order you sign up, whereas if you go to the emergency room the emergencies will take priority," she said.

The new wing will house a suite focusing on women's health needs such as gynecology, infertility and primary care. Reflections of Symmetry, a boutique for mastectomy, breast reduction and chemotherapy patients will also be in the suite, which is not yet named.

In addition to Butler & Byrd Dental Associates, area businesses opening second locations at the complex include Hagerstown Medical Laboratory, Robinwood Dialysis Center and, Comprehensive Women's Care and Gastroenterology Associates.

Dino J. Delaportas, M.D., Robinwood Internal Medicine, Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center, Digestive Disorders Consultants and Washington County Hospital Employees Federal Credit Union will move to the new wing from suites in Robinwood Medical Center.

Hagerstown Medical Laboratory will maintain its first location in the center while opening a second in the new wing to serve as its primary patient service center.

An atrium with a fountain will be at the center of a new, larger food court with indoor/outdoor seating. Nutrition Services will move from The Robin's Nest on the first floor of the center to provide expanded food services, Redmond said.

Also in the wing are a 2,900-square-foot multipurpose suite for occupants and a 225-seat conference/education center to be used by Health Systems for community education and support services, Redmond said.

Many suites will be open in time for a grand-opening celebration Saturday, Oct. 5, from noon to 4 p.m. The celebration will have refreshments, entertainment for kids and tours, Redmond said.

"Since they had a big formal grand opening when (Robinwood Medical Center) opened, they wanted to do something kind of fun for the community," she said.
