African-American Cultural Heritage Festival is planned

The Jefferson County, W.Va., branch of the NAACP will hold its 10th African American Cultural and Heritage Festival, Friday, Aug. 16, through Sunday, Aug. 18. This year's theme is Honoring Our Past and Present, Celebrating Our Future.

A banquet will be held Friday, Aug. 16, at 6:30 p.m., at Hilltop House Hotel in Harpers Ferry. For details, call Ruth McDaniel, 1-304-725-2128.

On Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, a health fair will be held at Wright Denny Cafeteria., followed by a parade from Ranson, W.Va., to Charles Town, W.Va., at noon. Trophies will be awarded.

On Saturday afternoon and evening, arts and crafts and entertainment will take place on South Lawrence Street in Charles Town. Vendors and exhibits include art, ethnic products, sculptures, clothing, jewelry, house accessories, dolls, collectibles, giveaways, educational materials, crafts and food. Entertainment includes Maryvales Finest Marching Group from Rockville, Md., a moon bounce, dunking tower, pony rides, Karl Miller Gospel Revue from Kimball, W.Va., the rhythm and blues band CLVS, Virginia Beach young performing artists, Martinsburg's YTH-FUL Prayz, and NBC from Fayetteville, N.C.

A gospel extravaganza will begin Sunday at 3 p.m., sponsored by the Jefferson County Ministerial Alliance.
